Circular No 2: January 2018

The South East Australian Naturalists’ Association (SEANA) cordially invites field naturalists from across Australia to attend the 10th ANN Get-together to be held in Victoria in spring 2018. The gathering will take place midway through Victoria’s wildflower season beginning at Halls Gap in the Grampians on the afternoon of Saturday 29 September 2018. We will then travel through part of the Western Victorian Volcanic Plain to Warrnambool for an overnight stay. The final 4 nights will be at Anglesea on the Surf Coast near Geelong, with the Get-together concluding with breakfast on Monday 8 October 2018.


Over 90 expressions of interest have been received.
A Registration Form is attached and needs to be returned, with a deposit, by 31 March.
The balance of fees is required by 31 July.
Deposits are fully refundable if written notice of cancellation is received by 30 June. After this date  consideration will be given to partial refunds depending on timing & circumstances. It is strongly recommended that intended participants take out travel insurance.
For logistical reasons the number of participants will be limited to 90.
Participants will be registered in the order the Registration Form and deposit are received – SO BE PROMPT

Accommodation details
Norval House, Halls Gap :
Norval House is a Uniting Church camp 1 km south of the Halls Gap shopping centre.
16 rooms, 6 single beds per room, ensuite. 3-4 people per room. Cost will include linen hire (sheets, blanket, towel, pillow and pillow slip). Dining room, lounges and bedrooms in one building, heating  and carpets throughout.
Anglesea YMCA Recreation Camp:
Anglesea Recreation Camp is located in a bushland setting on the Great Ocean Road, 400m from Anglesea shopping centre.
28 rooms, 2-6 single beds per room, shared amenities in same building. Cost will include linen hire(sheets, doona/blanket, towel, pillow and pillow slip). Dining room accessed via covered walkway.
Cold Sleepers may wish to bring an extra blanket/sleeping bag and hot water bottle.
Deakin University, Warrnambool:
The campus is 5km east of Warrnambool CBD.
Accommodation is in multi bedroom units with single, twin and double rooms. Pillows, blankets, bath towel & linen are supplied.
Note: Deakin accommodation is available to ALL ANN 2018 participants in twin or double rooms.
Package 1,2 & 3 (page 3) includes the cost of $45 per person per night for Deakin accommodation.
For those wishing to arrange their own accommodation, Halls Gap, Warrnambool and Angelsea have a range of accommodation in caravan parks, motels, hotels, cottages, etc. Demand will be high during the second week of Victorian School Holidays so early booking would be advisable. Other accommodation information can be researched on the web.

Package 2 Own Transit Transport
Includes all excursion transport, all accommodation and all meals.
Cost: $1120 Deposit: $330
Package 3 Own Transit Transport and Own accommodation at Halls Gap and Anglesea
Includes all excursion transport, accommodation at Deakin Uni, Warrnambool and all meals.
Cost: $735 Deposit: $220
Package 4 Own Transit Transport and Own accommodation.
Includes all excursion transport and all meals.
Cost: $690 Deposit: $210
Note 1: Transit transport is bus transport from Melbourne (Tullamarine) Airport to Halls Gap, Warrnambool, Anglesea and return to Melbourne (Tullamarine) Airport. Excursion transport is bus transport for day excursions from Halls Gap and Anglesea.
Note 2: All packages include all meals (breakfast, packed lunch and dinner), excursion entrance fees and excursion bus transport (for safety and logistical reasons private vehicles will NOT be able to tag along on the excursions from Halls Gap and Anglesea).
Note 3: Package costs as indicated are our best estimates based on the available information at this time. We hope that they won’t change but must reserve the right to amend them if our assumptions, particularly regarding enrolments, prove incorrect. We will advise of any necessary change as soon as possible after enrolments close.
Note 4: For those selecting package 1. Transport from Melbourne (Tullamarine) Airport on Sat 29 September will leave the airport at 1pm. Transport to Melbourne (Tullamarine) Airport on Mon 8 October will arrive at noon.
